This Depth and Complexity: Change Over Time unit
focuses on how things change over time.
This is part of a completed bundle that you can find here: Depth and Complexity Bundle
Look in the mirror. As we stare at our reflections, it is easy to note some very obvious changes over time. Consider the growth our students make in a year in our classrooms. These are changes over time.
Scientists, researchers, and historians are constantly examining the changes that are made over time. Scientists look to see if experiments have made positive or negative changes over time. Researchers continuously look to see if changes they examine are helping society or damaging it. Historians examine what has led us to the world that we live in today.
The wonderful thing about the changes over time icon is that is applies to a wide variety of curriculum, as well as our everyday lives. We notice the changes in seasons, the growth of our students in writing, the life cycle of a butterfly, how tall our own children are growing, and, of course, changes in education.
The Depth and Complexity icons were created by Sandra Kaplan and Bette Gould. The implementation of these icons allows differentiated learning where students can delve deeper and think more complexly about topics. Through the use of these icons, students can master topics. It is important to note that Depth and Complexity is not just for your higher level thinkers, but for all of your students.
