Product Description
This Depth and Complexity: Multiple Perspectives unit focuses on looking at things from different points of view.

This is part of a completed bundle that you can find here: Depth and Complexity Bundle

Whoever said that there are two sides to every story must have been thinking about the multiple perspectives icon. This icon takes into account that there may be even more than two sides. Looking at things from a different point of view is the main focus of this icon.

For as long as I can remember, authors have been rewriting fairy tales from the viewpoints of different characters. The first one I can remember encountering in my teaching career (and falling instantly in love with) is The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by A. Wolf, as told to Jon Scieszka. I became very interested in collecting these stories that showed that there was more than one side to a story.

The wonderful thing about the multiple perspectives icon is that is so fun and easy to apply to other topics. How fun would it be to tell about equations from the viewpoint of the plus sign, the minus sign, or even the equal sign? How about learning the importance and creation of our flag from the flag’s point of view? Applying this idea to everyday events is also fun. Did you slip and fall on the ice on the way to school? All you do is think about how you got hurt. Well, what about the poor ice? I think you get the picture.

The Depth and Complexity icons were created by Sandra Kaplan and Bette Gould. The implementation of these icons allows differentiated learning where students can delve deeper and think more complexly about topics. Through the use of these icons, students can master topics. It is important to note that Depth and Complexity is not just for your higher level thinkers, but for all of your students.
