This Depth and Complexity: Trends unit
focuses on cause and effect, identifying trends, and determining what to do based upon trends related to various topics.
This is part of a growing bundle that you can find here: Depth and Complexity Bundle
Most everything we do these days is inspired by trends- the clothes we wear, the toys we play with, the places where we shop, and what we buy. Trends dictate a large part of our lives. If our favorite restaurants do not pay attention to their own trends, such as the most popular menu items or the days when they have the most customers, our favorite restaurants may soon be out of business. Trends reflect changes, but we must focus on why the change happened and what we are going to do now that the change has occurred.
As teachers, we notice trends with our students all the time, whether it be the gadgets they play with such as fidget spinners, what books are the most popular, or what all of the kids are wearing, watching or listening to. Companies make a lot of money by paying attention to these trends, too.
The Depth and Complexity icons were created by Sandra Kaplan and Bette Gould. The implementation of these icons allows differentiated learning where students can delve deeper and think more complexly about topics. Through the use of these icons, students can master topics. It is important to note that Depth and Complexity is not just for your higher level thinkers, but for all of your students.
