This slideshow is appropriate for German 1 or German 2 classes and will be easily understandable to German 3 classes.
I use it in the following way --
- Students take notes on a piece of paper folded in half "hot dog" style. One side is for content notes (in whatever language the student will understand them in), the other is for new German vocabulary.
- The teacher reads through the slideshow slide by slide. Students ask teacher to define unknown words/phrases, which teacher does on the whiteboard or aloud, while students take notes on them.
- After the vocabulary phase of a slide, students translate chorally as a class, with help from teacher. Students take notes on the content.
- There are many possible follow-ups. I usually give L1 quizzes about the cultural topics and TL vocabulary quizzes based on the student-generated list of vocabulary words.
The time it will take to go through this will depend on the level of German your group already has. You can also stop for pop-up grammar or structured grammatical review if desired. The passive voice is used as well as the preterite tense.
