I'm so excited to share this freebie! This is a game I learned about when I was in college. I have used it every year that I've taught math and my kids love it. Since we live in Louisville, KY (home of the Kentucky Derby!), it goes perfectly with the celebration of this fun time of year.
The game is simple - choose a horse that you think will win. Roll 2 dice, subtract the numbers, and move that horse one space forward. The horse that gets to the end circle first wins. It's a game of probability!
Your students will need some type of marker (bingo chips, mini erasers, or coins) to mark their horse choice.
I also included a tally sheet so your students can keep up with the horses that win and analyze that data.
You don't have to use this with the KY Derby. You could use this with any horse race or with a study on horses in general!
I have used this with 2nd-7th graders. It's so much fun though, I would suggest using it with kindergarten through 8th graders!
Thank you to my followers - this is a KY Derby AND a 100-follower celebration freebie! Enjoy!
