Task Cards really do work! They get the students engaged and keep them motivated to go through all of the problems, more so than a simple worksheet. This set is designed for AP Calculus AB, BC, Honors, or College Calculus 1 and is from Unit 2.

. # 1 - 11 can be done early in Unit 1, using the limit definition or the rules of derivatives before Trig and the Chain Rule. Cards #12 - 24 use the Quotient Rule, Trig, Logs, and Exponentials. This gives you lots of different ways to use these cards. None use Inverse trig functions.

demonstrating how to find the tangent line to a curve on the TI 83-84 Plus. When it comes to the calculator, I have always believed in a level playing field. Usually there are a few students who have explored the calculator or have been shown this technique. By teaching it to everyone, it even things out. When you test or quiz always include questions with “exact” answers, such as with a pi or radical. Using the graphing calculator also makes the task cards self - checking.
