Product Description
Lead students through the steps to derive the percent equation from the percent proportion. This worksheet is aligned with CCSS 7.RP.3 and requires minimal understanding of literal equations. The goal is to show students where the percent equation came from and why it works. As an added benefit, many of my students saw more clearly that proportions truly are equations after doing this worksheet. Prior to this they viewed proportions as two separate ratios, no matter how many times I stressed that a proportion is an EQUATION stating two ratios are equivalent to each other. The whole equation thing just didn't sink in until they manipulated the proportion and made it look like other equations they've used. It's also really great when they notice that it looks amazingly similar to y=kx. I love leading my students to discover connections in math!
