PRODUCT DESCRIPTION

It is believed that the Chinese are the descendants of the the dragon. Thus, when touring China you will see many references to this mythological beast, including pictures, dances, songs, and more. 'Descendant of the Dragon,' otherwise known as 'Children of the Dragon,' is a famous Chinese folksong. As I teach in China, whenever I hum this tune, my Chinese students immediately exclaim, "I know that song, too!"

This piece has been transcribed as a lead sheet for ukulele. It features two staves, with the first being a traditional lead sheet containing a melody line and accompanying chords. The second stave features a ukulele TAB. It was successfully performed with a grade 6 music class.

Disclaimers:

- Traditional Chinese music theory is not based on the Western notion of harmonies, chord progressions, etc. When this song is performed in China, it is often played as a heterophonic melody, with several performers playing the melody on pitched instruments and having accompaniments of non-pitched percussive instruments. However, Western chords have influenced Asian music, in general, and now music performed in China often has typical Western chord structures. When my Chinese students performed this song, we used a mixture of Western and Chinese instruments (piano, flutes, bass guitar, zither, guitars, and ukuleles) and we used the chords I've provided. If you'd like this song to sound more authentic, then you'll need to finger-pick the ukulele (to mimic the sound of a luqin or pipa) and have a non-pitched percussion accompaniment with a lot of cymbals and woodblocks.

- I have swapped the string order in the ukulele TAB. The default in Finale is to have G on the top; however, to match the TAB to typical notation, I have placed G on the bottom, followed by C E and A on the top.

This sheet music is copyrighted 2015 by Amy Keus. Please feel free to perform the song in both public and private settings, using either or both of the lead sheet or ukulele TABS. Please do not resell any portion of this score.

If you'd like other sheet music, whether lead sheets or TABs of Chinese folksongs, please contact me and I will be happy to transcribe music for my TPT shop.
