This activity consists of a passage about giant pandas and questions about the points the author makes.
I made this to satisfy CCSS RI.2.8. It is a shorter passage than most of the texts I have available. I ask students to give the author's purpose for writing the passage (RI.2.6). Then, I give the key points of a few paragraphs and ask students to identify and/or write evidence to support the point. The final question asks students to evaluate the strength of a particular point.
I used this piece to introduce the skill, so I originally did a lot of discussion about the passage before students answered questions. However, you could use this for assessment as well.
It may also satisfy a science standard since the passage gives information about a mammal.
