4-Corner Character Poster
Hinton gives the reader a plethora of character details in the first three chapters of The Outsiders. One is able to garner these details through both direct and indirect characterization. Direct characterization occurs when the author or character “directly” gives you information. Indirect characterization occurs when one learns details through “indirect” means, such as the character’s actions or thoughts, or another character’s actions or thoughts about the character. For this assignment, you will be gathering examples of both direct and indirect characterization for one character in The Outsiders.
