DESCRIBING MAPS - “WHAT IS IT?” ACTIVITY
This activity designed by Heather Bates, SLP was created to accompany my Describing Map Vocabulary Lesson. These slides are meant to assist in developing your students ability to give a comprehensive definition on a given word and use inferencing skills to determine a given word based on clues given. The amazing clip art is provided by www.mycutegraphics.com and Pink Cat Studios.
HOW TO USE:
Show as a slide show on your SmartBoard
Slide 1 - is meant to review the information needed to give a comprehensive definition ( 1. Where do you find it? 2. What does it look like-parts/color/size/shape? 3.) What is the category? 4.) Can you tell more using your senses-smell/taste/hear/feel? 5.) What do you do with it?).
Slides 2-12 – Clues are given on the 1st slide and students must use the given clues to guess the picture on the following slide. You may gather guesses after each clue is given and then eliminate incorrect guesses after subsequent clues or give all the clues then have students guess.
Slides 13-67 – A question mark is shown in the middle square on the 1st slide. On the following slide is a picture. Show a student in the class the picture then go back to the question mark slide and have the chosen student provide the clues to class to see if they can guess the given item on the following slide. Once again you can have the class guess after each clue is given and then eliminate incorrect guesses after subsequent clues are given or give all the clues then have students guess.
Slides 68- 69 – An assessment rubric is provided to collect data on your student’s performance
