This is a Mind Map to help with ´Describing Appearances´, and is split into simple traits and characteristics for easy teaching, learning and remembering.
It can be used as a handout for the class, and bring some pictures of famous people too (either printed out, or bring in some magazines or newspapers).
- The teacher should present the vocabulary to the class first, using a couple of real life examples.
- Then, the students can be put in pairs or groups, and have them use the mind map to describe the people in their groups.
- You can introduce pictures of famous people for the students to describe too.
- Another exercise you can include are to give out magazines, and have the groups race to find someone e.g. "with blonde hair and blue eyes". Then get the students themselves to choose what aspects of appearance everyone should search for.
My students have responded very well to this form of handout, and have great recall of the vocabulary.
