This graphic organizer worksheet was created for CCSS.1.RL.7, which is extremely similar to LAFS.1.RL.3.7 (if you live in Florida like me). This standard is all about "us[ing] illustrations and details in a story to describe its characters, setting, or events." The worksheet focuses on setting. It was designed specifically for First Grade, but could be easily used with Second Grade, and could be used in a whole group setting for Kindergarten (as it may be too difficult for a Kindergarten student to complete at the independent level).
Students will write the name of the setting, and fill in a T-Chart about setting. Students will draw pictures to show what the setting looks like in the illustrations on the left side of the t-chart, and write details from the text about the setting on the right side of the t-chart.
This worksheet could be used as an assessment, as a whole group activity, in small group, as a reading log, or in centers. I am personally using it during a lesson to help my students record and represent their knowledge.
