Build definitions by describing items based on their attributes in these engaging activities to work on attributes in your speech therapy room. Build longer and shorter definitions with both receptive and expressive language.
Practice receptive and expressive attributes with a cultural twist! Matryoshka attributes is a packet to focus on describing and defining items based on the idea of matryoshka dolls (aka, Russian nesting dolls), where the possibilities of what one describes gets smaller and smaller as the speaker goes along.
Included in this packet are:
Receptive cards with 3 attributes given per card. Students use the definition to figure out the item being described. There are 24 cards in this deck.
Receptive cards with 4 attributes given per card. Students use the definition to figure out the item being described. There are 24 cards in this deck.
Expressive attributes cards - students are given an item and use the visuals of the matryoshka dolls to remind themselves to give 3 or 4 attributes for their definition. There are two separate decks, one with 3 visuals and one to target 4 attributes. There are 24 of each type of card included in this packet.
Blank versions of all the cards allow you to create your own.
Two receptive and two expressive worksheets.
Three attribute posters to aid in explaining how to create an effective definition by using pertinent attributes.
Matryoshka attribute activity that can be adapted for multiple skill levels and receptive or expressive tasks. Students place the type of attribute next to each nesting doll in this activity, to cue themselves on how many/which type of attribute to use.
Attribute cue cards to help remind students throughout the session how to use attributes to make a definition.
