Throughout this interactive journal students learn about synonyms, how they can paint a picture with their words, using descriptive verbs and dialogue, and basic figurative language that can aid their descriptive writing.
There are templates for 5 notes included in this download, each come with the materials to make the note as well as detailed teaching notes explaining how to use the resource, and an extension activity to further reinforce the concepts covered in each note.
1: Paint A Picture (with words): introduces students to the concept of descriptive writing and the types of things they can describe through an imagery activity.
2: Synonyms: introduces students to the concept of synonyms and overly used words.
3: Strong Verbs: teaches students the difference between strong and weak verbs and how they can be used to make their writing more descriptive.
4: "Said Is Dead": introducing descriptive dialogue and alternatives to the word 'said'.
5: Figurative Language: introducing basic figurative language and how it can benefit student writing.
