Students will have fun learning + using their new Chapter 1 vocabulary with this puzzle! First, trim the edges from around the original file [otherwise, it's a easier, as students can tell what the edge pieces are]. Next, have students cut along the lines + scramble all the pieces together. You can either allow students to use vocabulary lists [for a vocabulary intro] or test them on their knowledge without allowing the use of a vocabulary list. The pictures on this document will help the instructor to quickly evaluate whether the puzzle was correctly put together or not.
This includes a 4x5 piece puzzle with vocabulary terms, English to Spanish, from the Descubre 2, Leccion 1 chapter [on health]. Students should match the terms together to create the original 8.5" x 11" rectangle. But it's trickier than you'd think! As there are also terms on the outside edges without matches... This activity can take anywhere from 7 minutes [for your quickest, must studious students] to 15+ minutes. I like to turn it into a competition: I divide the class down the center + give each half 10 puzzles to finish. As soon as students finish 1 puzzle, they move on to another puzzle within their group. The first side to finish gets a prize or bonus points!
