My students LOVE these fun Southwestern-themed literacy centers. Included are five activities and they are all based on Common Core Standards. And they're filled with FUN desert critters! Thanks for checking them out!
Activities and Standards info is below:
Southwestern Syllables- Put syllable cards together to form and spell two and three syllable desert words (ELA.Literacy.RF1.3.D Use knowledge of vowel sounds to determine number of syllables; RF.1.3.E and RF.2.3.C Decode two-syllable words)
High Desert Details- Add details to a story; details will determine answers on the response sheet (ELA.Literacy.RL.1.1 and RL.2.1 Answer who, what, where, when, and why questions about details in a text)
Rattlesnake Sentences- Snake pieces each have part of a sentence and students put it back together to form sentences (Literacy.L.1.1.J Produce and expand simple sentences with correct capitalization and punctuation)
Shades of Meaning in the Shade- Sort verbs into MOVE, SAY, and EAT categories then write them in correct columns based on intensity (Literacy.L.1.5.D and 2.5.B Distinguish shades of meaning among verbs)
Sleepy Syllables- Match syllable beginnings with -tion and -ture endings (Literacy.RF.1.3.E and RF.2.3.C Decode regularly spelled two syllable words)
