These literacy activities would be a perfect way to supplement a unit on the desert. It could be used as a stand-alone product, however, since I have included a nonfiction mini-book that students can read for information
The activities in this packet were designed with third graders in mind. However, many of the activities would work well with second or fourth graders.

Desert animal alphabetical order sheet
2 different parts of speech sorting worksheets (noun/verb/adjective and verb/adjective/adverb)
Sentence writing activity using desert animal names, verbs, and adverbs (with word lists for support)
Parts of speech reference sheet
Multisyllable word sort (24 cards to sort; recording sheet)
8-page cut and staple nonfiction book (main idea/detail text structure)
Main Idea/Detail Graphic Organizer which could be used with the mini-book or any text
3 versions of a “Three Important Words” graphic organizer (Identical…except: One has desert animal clip art, one has desert plant clip art, and one has no clip art.)
Two-page worksheet to practice using adjectives with –er and -est
Set of rule posters for adding endings to words
Rule chart for using more and most to compare nouns
Walk-around sorting activity for using “more” and “most” with adjectives to compare nouns
