This activity is designed to be used over multiple sessions to target various speech/language goals.
Parts of this can be used with children in younger grades (PS-2), while parts can be used for 3rd grade and up. Please download the preview to see if it is appropriate for your students. Some goals that can be targeted include: formulating sentences, answering WH questions, describing, comparing and contrasting, persuading, identifying community helpers, first/last/next to/between concepts, following directions, and more.
To Set Up: Print and laminate 2 copies of the strips of road (page 4) and attach to each other to make one long road. Print and laminate buildings (pages 5-7). These can be set along the road in any way that the student chooses. There are 15 buildings total.
pg. 8-10: black and white version, out out the road and glue onto a larger piece of paper
pg. 11-16: task charts (older grades)
pg. 17: poster to help students describe the buildings
pg. 18-19: Design A House worksheets – students choose a house (pg. 18) and color it, use graphic organizer (pg. 19) to describe the interior of the house
pg. 20-23: “Visitor’s Guide” take home booklet – students fill this out with details about their town
pg. 24: provide reasons to persuade others to visit your town
pg. 25-27: discussion prompts
pg. 28-30: sentence prompts (plus a blank page to fill in your own)
pg.31: 1-2 step directions
pg. 32-34: strips of 4 buildings – work on first, last, second, third, next to, between concepts
print 2 copies of the buildings for a memory game
use the strips with 4 buildings for describing
use toy cars on the road to “drive” through the town
