Introducing students to the Design Elements? This power point presentation and note taking sheet is how I have begun this topic my classes for the past few years and it's great! It is suited for middle school Grades 6 - 9.
Design elements are often referred as the building blocks for all designs/artworks. This presentations introduces students to the eight elements:
LINE, SHAPE, POINT, TONE, TEXTURE, COLOUR, FORM, TYPE
Visual examples by current designers/artists and key describing vocabulary are included in the presentation slides. As I present each design element, students take notes and write their own definitions on their worksheets. They also spend a few minutes sketching a simple example in the space provided.
This presentation and note taking worksheet is part of a larger Unit of Work bundle; 'Design Element Prism Project'. In this project students apply their understanding of Design Elements to their own illustrations and create a three dimensional prism artwork. You can find this bundle also in my shop.
