Your students will love meeting the Design Team that will guide them through creating Santa's Village! This project-based learning unit is perfect for your students to review Math concepts like Multiplication, Measurement, Area, Perimeter, and more!
Included are a variety of activities that meet NGSS and Common Core Math standards. The standards listed are 4th grade, but this unit is also perfect for grades 3-6. The activities are easily differentiated, so that you can skip lessons that your students may not be familiar with.
Also included is a series of engaging presentation slides to introduce each class and teach the concept/skill for that activity. These slides match the included student booklet, which students complete throughout the unit. Pick and choose what booklet pages you feel will best fit your students' needs! Finally, for extension and a Language Arts connection, there is also a packet that includes writing prompts (with graphic organizers). One of the writing prompts is a self-assessment reflection. The booklet also has a certificate at the end!
The entire unit is broken down into the following sections:
Design the Village - students will learn about criteria/constraints and scale to map out the village! They will also use their reading and writing skills to choose elves to hire.
Design the Bakery - students will use their multiplication, area, and perimeter skills to compare prices! They will also edit and write recipes.
Design the Farm - students will use their multiplication, area, and perimeter skills to create the reindeer farm!
Design the Workshop - students will analyze a problem to develop a solution, and use scale to map out the workshop! They will also practice pattern and graphing skills and complete a STEM project to design a new toy with given criteria and constraints.
Depending on how much time you have in your class period, and how many of the activities you choose to complete with your class, this unit can take a few days to 2 weeks to complete.
Don't forget to leave feedback!
