This project can be used when teaching Surface Area and Volume in grades 5-7.
Students will design their own cereal brand and box. Students will label their cereal box and it’s dimensions. Then, students will find the volume of the cereal box. Students will create a surface area net or use the one provided to find the area of each face and then the total surface area of the cereal box. Just like any other cereal box, the front should be decorated to attract customers and students will create 4 area math problems on the back of the box to keep their customers entertained while eating the cereal. The sides of the cereal box will include nutritional facts and any other fun information. The top of the box can include a best buy date, box top, etc. and the bottom of the box must have the answers to their math questions from the back.
This is a great project to review material learned in geometry while incorporating creativity!
***There are some blank pages in the word document because I didn't want anything on the back of a page when copying. When students are designing or coloring, I didn't want the color to bleed through the paper***
