This is a curriculum embedded performance assessment. Students work together to design an industrial-era city that reflects social classes as well as progressive reforms.
There are two versions of the project included. Both assess the students' knowledge and application of topics learned in the Urbanization and Progressivism Unit. Students take on a specific role and must work with other students to incorporate their person's needs into the city design.
My students have gotten very creative with their designs. I have had 3D models, blue print diagrams, and even a sim-city design.
This allows students to truly collaborate (not just have one person do all of the work) and use their imaginations, as well as critical thinking and problem solving skills. When left to be creative the students have always exceeded my expectations.
Pictures of project examples are included to give students an idea of expectations.
