The purpose of this project is to help your students display a theme from the story they are reading by designing and creating the front cover of the novel. When their audience sees the front cover, they should be able to identify the central idea of the novel based on the graphics, illustrations, and words depicted.

This resource is an excellent activity for teaching theme using any novel, short story, or fictional text. Your students will have the opportunity to be creative while simultaneously learning about overarching themes that exist in the text!
As you can see in the preview, the student example is their interpretation of one of the themes in the book WONDER. This student chose the theme of inner beauty vs outer beauty. She drew a reflection of inner beauty representing her physical appearance on the cover she designed.
