Children construct and design jumping jack toys to practice inquiry science skills necessary to be inventive designers. Observations of mechanical action and reaction, cause and effect, and range of motion turns a jumping jack into a toy full of learning and inventive fun.

The book describes three level of design learning engagement from constructing the simplest model, to designing their own jumping jacks based on design question, challenges, and improvements. These projects are fun to do individually, but also great for collaboration with partners and groups.

This science activity book is fully illustrated with directions and printable patterns to construct:
jumping frog, monkey, hippo, skater, snowman, Jack and Jill, Jack Pumpkinhead, and racing horse.

NGSS science standards include physical science (PS2-1, PS2-2) and Engineering/Technology standards (ETS1-1, ETS1-2, ETS1-3)
Art is included as an integral part of the toy design.
