Need a fun activity for Thanksgiving? Then you've come to the right spot. Students love creating "Turkey Glyphs" based on things they will be doing or food they will be enjoying during the holiday. Students simply select appropriate colors to color a "Turkey Glyph" by responding to a set of directions. (Example: If they like to eat corn, then they will color one of the tail feathers yellow.) You can also use this as a time for your students to practice speaking in front of a large group by having partners go to the front of the room and tell the class 3 things they learned about their partner by observing the turkey glyph. Finally, you will have cute little turkeys to display on your classroom bulletin board.
Older students will love being able to read the set of directions while working independently. Younger students--even kindergarteners--will be able to complete this activity with oral directions by the teacher.
