This is a great culminating project for your class study of the Titanic! Students will gather information about the flaws in the original design of the Titanic and use that information to design their own Titanic II!
Students will have two short reading passages (88 and 130 words, respectively. Both are in the 500-600L band of text complexity) that they will read to refresh their memory on the Titanic and its disastrous sinking. They will be guided through a brainstorming process and into writing an article and designing an advertisement for their new ship!
There are two pages of math calculations that go along with the theme, both utilizing addition and subtraction within 1000 with regrouping.
This project was designed as an alternative method of instruction (AMI) to replace one of our snow days. It is meant to be completed in one day, but can be spread out over 2-3 days if desired! It includes a standards guide, as well as answer keys where applicable.
