The Dessert Work word work centers are a fun, useful way for first and second graders to practice key reading and writing concepts. Each activity includes a set of blank cards for differentiation or continued play.
Synonym Roll Memory:
Students play "Memory" using pairs of synonyms. An optional variation is Synonym Roll Go Fish.
Students assemble the components of a s'more to make a sentence with a subject, verb, preposition, and object and practice writing the sentences on a recording sheet.
Students fill a candy box with other words for "said" and then flip over the cards to make sure they've filled the box with candies. Students then tell a silly story using other words for "said."
Compound Word Cakes:
Students match the halves of cakes to form compound words and practice writing them on a recording sheet.
