This Common Core reading literature lesson covers how to determine the central message in a narrative or literary text. The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for Common Core assessments. In this lesson, students will read the text, identify a character, and then identify a clue word that shows the character learned a lesson about life. What the character learns is then identified as the central message. In addition to the lesson, there are four pages of independent practice with questions modeled after the Common Core assessment items.
