This Common Core vocabulary lesson practicing the use of common, grade-appropriate Greek or Latin affixes and roots as clues to the meaning of a word (e.g., precede, recede, secede). The lesson includes research-based strategies and strategic questions that prepare students for Common Core assessments. In this lesson, students will learn identify context clues to discover the meaning of the word. The 5th grade, 7th grade, and 8th grade standards for L.4b are the same; however, the words used in each lesson are grade-specific when possible. In addition to the lesson, there are four pages of independent practice and review with questions modeled after the Common Core assessment items.
