This is a chart to assist in determining Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) use for individuals with Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI) according to the Rancho Coma Levels which was adapted from Beukelman (2007; 2013). It includes information and explanation on each of the following areas:

Rancho Levels
Expected Communication according to Rancho Levels
Assessment (specific to AAC) according to different levels of performance within each Rancho Level
Intervention (specific to AAC) according to different levels of performance within each Rancho Level

This chart was created for Speech Language Pathologists for use in a Inpatient and Outpatient (Rancho Levels 1- 8) Hospital settings.
