Product Description
This product contains 4 worksheets to help students practice breaking apart a complex shape in order to determine the area of several smaller rectangles that can be joined together to find the area of the original shape. I use these with my students that struggle with "seeing the rectangles" in a complex shape when we're trying to find the area. Together we color as many rectangles as needed and find the area of those rectangles. Then, we record our findings (in color, of course) and add the areas to find the area of the entire shape.

Once students have mastered breaking apart shapes, they can be moved on to my Area & Perimeter Task Cards Sets 2 & 3.

Cards can be printed in color or black line masters. Laminate them for durability.
