All of the lesson plans included in this package are aligned to the Common Core Standards for Fourth Grade and use popular picture books as a springboard for instruction.
These lesson plans can be used for whole group, small group, and independent instruction. Each lesson plan follows the format of a minilesson and provides an opportunity for children to turn and talk about determining importance they make while reading, reflect on the text, and write about their reading using a reader's notebook worksheet.
This package also includes a Determine Importance anchor chart. Introduce the strategy to your students, then hang the anchor chart in your classroom library as a reminder of what good readers do. You could also make copies of the covers of each of the books and hang them with the anchor chart to remind students of the work they did while reading each of the books.
This package comes complete with lesson plans and a reader's notebook worksheet for the following books:
Miss Alaineus: A Vocabulary Disaster
Pink and Say
The Van Gogh Café
Train to Somewhere
You Wouldn't Want to Be a Worker On the Statue of Liberty
