This lesson covers how to determine whether or not a given value is a solution of an inequality. The presentation includes a pre-requisite knowledge warm-up, a description of how to determine whether or not the value is a solution, 8 examples of substituting the value into the inequality to solve, 4 examples of analyzing a graph of an inequality to determine if the value is a solution, and 4 examples that ask students to create and graph an inequality that would satisfy certain criteria.

This version of the PowerPoint lesson includes the work, answers, and explanations that the students would have heard and seen during the lesson. This is a great resource to provide to students who were absent on the day of the lesson and to students who need accommodations or modifications.

This PDF document directly follows the PowerPoint notes for this lesson. These are great for students who need accommodations or modifications. Or, provide these for all students to increase the speed of the lesson and to allow students to spend less time copying and more time participating in the lesson.
A printable version of the warm-up from the notes is also included, including an answer key. There are four warm-ups per page.
• Exit Ticket
A short, two-question “exit ticket,” is included, and the answer key is provided. These questions mirror the types of questions that students saw in the notes and can be an efficient way to gauge how well students understood the lesson. Additionally, the back side of the exit ticket asks students to rank how they feel about the concepts taught from 1-4. There are four exit tickets per page.
• “Funny Faces” Inequalities Activity
A fun way for students to practice the concept taught in the lesson. The game includes a blank face that students will complete with facial characteristics based on the answers to each question. There are 9 problems for the students to solve, and the answer to each question will determine which feature they will add to the blank face (such as eyes, hair, etc.). An answer key is included.
• Worksheet: 16 problems
Each of the 16 problems on this worksheet are similar to problems solved in the notes, including 8 problems for substituting a value into an inequality to determine whether or not it is a solution, 4 problems for determining whether or not a given value is a solution of an inequality that has been graphed on a number line, and 4 problems in which students must write and graph an inequality that meets certain criteria. An answer key is provided.
• Quiz: 3 problems
This half-sheet quiz asks students to solve the same types of problems they practiced in the notes and on the worksheet. This type of quiz is great for quick, formative feedback between teacher and student. An answer key is provided. Also included are two other versions of the same quiz that can be handed back to the student with their graded quiz. The first asks students to describe what mistakes they made on their first attempt on the quiz. The second asks students to provide the correct work for each problem they made a mistake on.
