Hello! Thank you for looking at Improving Auditory Processing Skills & Short-term Recall – Thanksgiving Theme!
This activity can be used from students that are from second grade to sixth grade to improve auditory processing skills. As an educator, I realize how important the development of auditory skills is, not to mention that students are required to be successful to respond to information presented orally by responding to questions! I created this activity for my students who had difficulty listening to short stories and then responding to questions regarding them. The 24 stories consist of two to three sentences containing specific referential vocabulary. Students are reminded to repeat information back to themselves as well as to visualize what is being said. This task requires attention, short-term memory and comprehension skills in order to correctly answer questions. Teachers will read the short stories and ask the students to listen to short stories and demonstrate understanding of those stories by answering brief questions. The answers to the questions are found directly in the content of the stories! All of the 24 short stories were written by ME around the Thanksgiving Theme to make it more relevant to this time of year! (For those of you who are speech pathologists, I designed this activity to help my students improve their ability with Auditory Comprehensions, specifically, those who had difficulty with the TAPS-3).
