This series of lessons was developed to help teachers use digital content to introduce and explore beginning fractions concepts.
Nine weblinks to free digital content are provided in a series of five lesson plans. Each lesson plan teaches a specific concept using digital content. Lesson objectives and step by step instructions for using the digital content are included in each plan.
Lesson 1 Objectives:
The students will learn that a fraction is an equal part of a whole. The students will learn that the same fraction can be represented by many different sizes and
Lesson 2 Objectives:
The students will learn the meaning of the words numerator and denominator.
The students will be able to identify numerators and denominators.
The students will learn that the parts of a fraction do not needed to be shaded next to one another in a visual representation.
Lesson 3 Objectives:
Students will be able to compare two fractions with like numerators and identify which is larger
Students will be able to order fractions with like numerators.
Lesson 4 Objectives:
Students will be able to visually estimate the size of a fraction relative to the whole.
Lesson 5 Objectives:
The students will be able to identify a fraction of a group.
