This resource takes students through a step-by-step process of how to develop a claim from a theme statement. The resource offers a sample theme to start, then takes students through the critical thinking process of developing a claim. To create this resource, I critically read Brad Leithauser's poem Mosquito, and then created this resource to model the critical thinking process for students. Essentially, this resource is a written version of a read-aloud think-aloud approach to instruction. I include a final claim statement sample. All analysis offered is based on the poem Mosquito.
