Teaching students about how the informational books are organized by the Dewey Decimal System? This is an activity that will allow the students to get up and make some discoveries on their own about the collection and how it is organized; to put into practice and see for themselves how the system works. Each number in the system has a different subject, so books on the same subject are shelved together. Brilliant!
Give groups of 2-3 students a number in the Dewey Decimal System, send them to the shelves to discover what subject is associated with the number. This worksheet gives them some direction and accountability, and is an assessment of their learning.
