This is a set of two, differentiated Dewey Decimal System task cards. You can use these task cards as either a library center or as an assessment.
One set of task cards has students read a scenario and asks what Dewey section he or she can find books to help with the problem. For example, "Your friend has a new pet rabbit. The rabbit is chewing the bars of its cage in boredom during the day. In what section will you find books that can help you make a list of toys or safe objects for it to chew while your friend is at school? The other, simpler, set of cards has students match a Dewey Section with a book type. For example, "Russia Books."
Each set has 10 task cards. There are a total of 20 included in the package. I use the simpler cards with my younger, primary grade students and the more involved scenario cards with my upper elementary 4th and 5th graders. You may choose to do that or to differentiate between the same grade.
There are two, differentiated response forms. One has students choose only 6 task cards to answer. The other form has students answer all of the task cards.
The task cards should be printed in color. The student response forms are included here in grayscale as are the included Answer Key and Dewey Decimal Classification "cheat sheet."
