Help your students learn Spanish through music! This is a great Day of the Dead activity that can be used various ways. The activity is based upon the song and official video by Pulquería El Día de los Muertos which can be found on Youtube. This song is great since it mixes the theme of the Day of the Dead with traditional Mexican music and pop/rock which the students enjoy! The video gives great visuals for the festivity of the Day of the Dead.
There are four sheets included. First, there is a question sheet with English questions that explore the student’s view of death prior to viewing the video, their impression of the video and a question asking for their background knowledge of the Day of the Dead and opinion questions post a class discussion on the day of the dead. Also included is a lyric sheet for the song as well as a cloze activity and answer key if you would like to use the song for a listening activity as well.
This activity can be used with the questions to spark a discussion about the Day of the Dead in Spanish I as well as a cultural comparison activity. Many years I have used the song just as a listening activity in Spanish two on the Day of the Dead to celebrate and remind the students of what they learned in Spanish I about the holiday.
