This Spanish version of the creative writing activity for Día de los Muertos is perfect for the beginner or intermediate Spanish as a foreign language classroom.
Last year I did mini-unit with my high school ESL students about the Day of the Dead (all in English!), and this was by far their favorite activity! First, I introduced them to some typical stories associated with countries where this holiday is celebrated. Then, I used this worksheet as a fun, creative writing prompt to have students invent their own stories. My teenage students are at a B1-B2 English level, and I was able to use this activity to fill an entire 55 minute lesson by giving them 30 minutes to write, 10-15 minutes to peer-critique with a partner for grammar/vocabulary mistakes, and the remaining time for sharing.
