In this activity, students learn about the Spanish holiday of Día de los Santos Inocentes (Day of the Holy Innocents)! Although it occurs in December, this holiday is most comparable to the US celebration of April Fool's Day.
Students can begin the activity by reading an informational handout about the history and traditions of Día de los Santos Inocentes. They then complete their own activity worksheet that could also be used as a take-home assignment. Their activity worksheet has them match and explain jokes in Spanish, read a tongue twister (trabalenguas) aloud, and write their own tongue twister!
*A simpler English-based version of the handout/activity and a more complex Spanish-based version of the handout/activity are included.
