Product Description
This assignment was designed to be used at the beginning of the novel and is an on-going assignment until the completion of the text. The primary goal of this dialectical journal is to enhance student writing by having them analyze what they believe are significant citations from the novel with insightful commentary/elaboration. I have used this assignment for many years and have found it to be a simple and efficient way of having students interact with the text. I also try to guide my students into finding citations that involve character development and theme that they can later "recycle" in their essays.

This particular document includes the essential requirements of the assignment, a model using correct MLA citation, "A+" commentary with optional sentence starters, and a mini rubric.
