This is an extension project that you can use after reading Diary of a Fly, Spider, or Worm by Doreen Cronin. This project gives students the opportunity to apply point of view, research, and creative writing skills! Students will mimic the style of the picture book to create their own by researching an animal of their choice, and then writing those facts in a way that is from the perspective of the animal and meant to be entertaining for the reader. This is a great higher-order thinking activity for any upper elementary student that has mastered the skill of point of view. It also gives them a chance to research a non-fiction topic and explore their creative side.
