This mini book contains language arts and math activities for Doreen Cronin's Diary of a Spider. Activities are aligned to Common Core standards. Students are encouraged to be creative through keeping their own diary for 6 days (you may choose to provide prompts or allow them to write freely) and brainstorm a description of a spider using adjectives. Other language arts activities include documenting realistic and fantasy aspects of the children's book and using National Geographic's Kids website to answer simple questions about a "spooky spider". In mathematics, students will create their own doubles and doubles plus one addition sentences using an open ended, decodable, story problems; survey and record who is afraid of spiders using tallies and a bar graph, and then comparing the results using greater than/less than.
