How I use these:
Vocabulary Bookmarks - I use the vocabulary bookmarks from beginning to end of the book. Students keep their place in the book with them. When students hear a vocabulary word during guided reading, they all start clapping. We stop, reference the bookmark for the definition, and see how it is used in the book.
Vocabulary BINGO - We play vocabulary BINGO 2-3 times a week during the book's novel unit. At first, I let them use their bookmarks when we play. I call out the definition, and I give students time to find the word. Then we say it together as a class. As they get to know the words, I stop reviewing them as a class. Finally, students play without their bookmark. It works really well and makes kids remember those vocabulary words even more than they would with traditional vocabulary activities (writing sentences, etc.)
