Dice cricket is a simple game that allows students to practice their strategies for multiplication and addition. Students can play with a partner or by themselves, and the aim is to get the highest score.
There are 11 batters on each team. For each batter students roll a ten sided dice, and multiply the number rolled by the number of the batter. Students then work on their addition skills by keeping a running total. The game can be reshaped for different levels, this file includes versions with the number batter represents whole numbers, tenths and hundredths.
Dice Cricket is a very easy and fun game to play to practice strategies, then as a prompt for discussion on the chances of different scores, estimating what numbers need to be rolled.
This game also works well with different sided dice. In the same lesson I have had different ability groups play the game but with 6, 10, 12, 20 and 100 sided dice whilst my high group used 20 sided dice with the decimal multiplication aspect of the game.
