Students will use data collected from 20 rolls of a die to conduct an investigation assignment on mean, median, mode, and range. Students must first make predictions about each measurement based on their current knowledge. They can collect their data and respond to the questions that follow. Finally, students compare their collected data to their predictions, and consider where similarities and differences arise from.
Depending on the size of the class, this activity can be completed by individual students or in pairs. For an additional challenge, two die can be used instead of one to increase the values being used. It can be organized as part of a large class activity, smaller group reinforcement, or as a math centre.
