Phonics Boxes are activities formatted for the boxes available at Michaels that contain 16 smaller boxes. These activities can also be stored in 6x9 brown envelopes or any other way you would like to store them. Each “box” contains a sound or syllable sort and a flashcard activity/game. The cards can also be used just as flashcards and, if laminated, you can have your students use dry erase markers to highlight phonic concepts (such as vowels, digraphs, blends, etc.) There is a title card for the front of the box or envelope and directions. I use double-sided tape to adhere them.
“Diced” is an activity for identifying and reading closed, vowel-consonant-e, and open syllable words. For the word sort students will be deciding which type of syllable is on the card. For the game, students will practice reading words with these 3 types of syllables in 2 syllable words.
For the word sort, students will decide if the word is a closed syllable, a vowel-consonant-e or an open syllable. 36 word syllable cards and 3 header cards are included. When the sort has been completed, students can combine the syllables to make 2 syllable words.
For the game “Diced”, 48 2-syllable word cards are included. Each card has 1-6 words, depending on the number of the dice on the card. For example, if they get a 6 dice, there will be six words on the card to read. If read correctly the student would get 6 points. At the end of the game the students add up their points. The student with the most points wins.
