Product Description
A one page activity designed to have students decipher the meaning of a poem by Emily Dickinson. Even if you have yet to or do not intend to study Dickinson, this exercise is one suitable to leave for subs. It requires using a dictionary to look up certain words in the poem and is also a good anticipatory set activity if you plan to teach Dickinson - you can collect the students' first attempts at understanding, not discuss them and give the same activity after you have completed Dickinson to assess the students' learning. If you do that, you could have the students write a paper on the differences between their "before and after" descriptions.
